In summer 2018, Enterprise Kettering recruited the services of retail consultancy Kerching! to run a series of workshops covering topics such as window display skills, digital marketing and social media for independent retailers.
Following on from the success Enterprise Kettering were delighted to welcome Corin from Kerching Retail back on 14th and 15th March to see how the businesses were progressing and offer some thoughts and advice for the future.
Over the 2 days Corin held “in store” 1-2-1 sessions with business owners – discussions ranged from window displays, themes and seasonality that attract customers, adapting product lines to reflect local trends, ways to improve the retail experience and maximising tools such as Facebook, Instagram and Google My Business.
One of his first stops was at the popular Bean Hive in the High Street which opened last year and is home to a cluster of independent traders. Davina Parkhouse, owner of the Bean Hive, who is passionate about supporting the town centre and a member of the newly formed Kettering Town Centre Partnership said:-
“It was fabulous and we are all buzzing with more ideas to improve the shop”
In addition to the Bean Hive, Corin also visited Upmarket Nails, The Studio, Faery Realm, Kettering Sewing Box, Toy Box and 1 Horsemarket. Businesses relished the opportunity to talk to a retail expert on their premises and all now have a long to do lists of activity they can introduce to help attract more shoppers and grow their business further.
Corin from Kerching said:- “It’s very easy for local people and shoppers to focus on empty units, what we overlook when we do this is the terrific independent businesses you have in towns like Kettering. Places to buy traditional high quality wooden toys, unusual gifts, recycled clothing operated by young people with special needs, hilarious cards, classic vinyl records and quirky furniture interspersed with great coffee shops and cafes”.
Serrina Budworth , from The Toy Box, Market Street said:-
“I really enjoyed 1-2-1 session with Corin, he gave some interesting advice which I can now put into action”
It is hoped that Corin will be back later in the year to continue his good work. For more information on what Corin offers see http://www.kerchingretail.com/blog
